Cooperation within the Association of Transplantologists of the Turkic world

The Association of Transplantologists of the Turkic world was created on December 15, 2014 for cooperation in donorship and organ transplantation among the Turkic states of the world. As a part of Association there are more than five hundred members from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

From May 20 till May 22, 2015 the I Congress of the Association of Transplantologists of the Turkic world organized by JSC National Scientific Medical Center with assistance of Ministry of Health and Social Development of RK took place in Astana. Specialists of JSC NSCSC took part in this Congress.

The main theme of the Congress was “Organ donation, protection and legislative activity in transplantation.”

More than 350 leading specialists in transplantology from 30 countries of the world – transplantologists, transplant coordinators, nephrologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists and others – took part in action.

Among honorary guests there are the founder and President of the Association of Transplantologists of the Turkic world, Mehmet Haberal, MD (Turkey), eminent transplantologists Said Ali Maliik-Huseyni (Iran), Philip O’Connel (Australia), Faysal Shakhin (Saudi Arabia), Moustapha Al-Mousavi (Kuwait), Abdel-Habi Breyzat (Jordan), Nadia Hakeem (Great Britain), Rifat Kamel (Egypt), etc.

As well as around the world, in Kazakhstan the problem of organ donation remains actual. Following the results of 2014, in the country more than 150 people stand in need of heart transplantation in a year, 250-300 people – liver transplantation, 1500 people – renal transplantation, 3-5 people – lung transplantation, 37 people – pancreatic gland transplantation. With that over a period of 2012 - 2015 only 445 renal transplantations, 76 liver transplantations and 21 heart transplants, 11 of which – within four months of the current year, were executed.

For coordination of Donorship and Transplantation Service, the Republican Coordination Center of Organ Transplantation and its branches in the regional centers of Astana and Almaty work in the country.

The success of transplantation depends on close interaction of the organizations of health care, various services and multidisciplinary teams.

On May 22 of this year within the Congress in JSC National Research Cardiac Surgery Center there were working meetings of the clinic administration Pya Yu.V. and Bekbossynova M.S. with the President of the Association of Transplantologists of the Turkic world – Professor Mehmet Haberal and the Director of the Center of Transplantation of Jordan – Professor Abdel-Habi Breyzat concerning the organization of the Donorship and Transplantation Program, and also with the transplantologist Songul Buyukkale from the Istanbul Center of Lung Transplantation – concerning the organization of the Program of Lung Transplantation and the complex “heart-lungs”.

The gathered experience allows JSC National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center to hold master classes for many foreign clinics, including on implementation of programs of donorship, transplantation, and transplant coordination. The condition of transplantology in the modern world is a key indicator of the condition of medicine in the country.
